What are the benefits of a radiant heating system?

So why should you consider a radiant heating system for your home? Here are some reasons:

  • Good for allergy sufferers – a radiant system heats your home by heating an object, aka, the floor. As such, there’s no swirling dust to contend with, as there is with a forced-air system.
  • Gentle, even heating – radiant heat is gradual, so it heats gently and evenly. This can feel more comfortable to many homeowners.
  • Easily zoned – because of the design and layout of radiant floor heating systems, they can be easily zoned for customized comfort.

What are the two types of radiant systems?

When you choose to heat your home with a radiant system, you have two choices by which heat can be generated: with electricity or hot water/steam. Electrical radiant floor heating uses cable laid into your floor in a certain pattern to maximize the distribution of heat; when the cable is electrified, it generates heat that passes through the floor into your living spaces. A hydronic radiant floor heating system uses a boiler to heat water that will flow through PEX tubing placed under your floor; as the hot water passes through the tubing, heat is released.
